As a volunteer-driven organization, member participation is the strength behind NATA’s activities and events. NATA offers many ways to get involved, get connected, and give back. Using your skills to benefit others not only showcases your abilities, but helps you build community and contribute to the advancement of the profession of synagogue executive directors and administrators.
As a peer-to-peer support organization, NATA is fueled by its robust pool of volunteers and lay leaders. NATA offers a variety of ways for our members to get involved, from short-term projects to ongoing committee membership and board service.

Micro-Volunteering
Short on time? Look at these short-term, low-commitment opportunities that offer quick options for getting involved.

Be an Onboarding Coach
Are you passionate about NATA membership? Share your excitement and experience with a new member by helping them get started on the right foot.
Be a Mentor
If you are an experienced synagogue executive with 5 or more years of experience in the field, consider helping new executives get acclimated to their new position by serving as a mentor.
Subject Matter Expert
Do have significant knowledge and experience in a particular area of synagogue management? Share your wisdom with your NATA colleagues!
Publish a blog post, host a webinar, or present at conference.
Conference Helper
Don't have time to serve on the conference planning committee? That's okay, there are plenty of things you can do at the event to help out!
Work Groups
Not ready to commit to a standing committee? No problem! NATA often forms work groups or task forces to address specific tasks or issues. Some examples of recent workgroups include:
- Titles Task Force, which is working on creating standardized definitions for the most common synagogue executive job titles of Executive Director and Administrator.
- Joint Conference Feasibility Group, which researched the feasibility of holding a joint conference with NAASE and NATA members.
While the Conference Planning Committee can be a full year commitment, there are plenty of small sub-committees that require a much smaller commitment and are critical to the success of our annual conference.
Standing Committees
NATA has a number of standing committees. Some are mandated in the organization's bylaws and others have been created by the Board of Directors to fill specific needs.
